Decomposed human bodies<\/span>, <\/span>stuck <\/span>on <\/span>the road. <\/span>Charred bodies<\/span>, <\/span>thrown by the blast from the wreckage that<\/span> <\/span>once <\/span>was <\/span>a car. <\/span>People<\/span> burned<\/span>ed, <\/span>frozen<\/span> <\/span>in the position in which <\/span>they were<\/span> hit<\/span> by<\/span> the weapons <\/span>of the enemy, <\/span>exactly when<\/span> they were trying to flee from<\/span> <\/span>Irp<\/span>i<\/span>n<\/span>. Stray dogs, some starving, others sated after tearing at corpses. On the <\/span>Kyiv \u2013 Zhytomyr highway<\/span> in Ukraine, there was a massacre in the <\/span>spring of <\/span>2022<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

The Russian army shot at everything <\/span>that was alive. The victims <\/span>were Ukrainians trying to <\/span>flee<\/span> to other localities<\/span> <\/span>or just <\/span>to get water and food for their children.<\/span> A few kilometers further, journalists Viorica Tataru and Andrei Captarenco also discovered the <\/span>Russian<\/span> tanks <\/span>that had killed civilians on the highway: they were<\/span> already destroyed by the Ukrainian army. <\/span> <\/p>

In Irp<\/span>i<\/span>n, the two journalists<\/span> came across three crosses placed next to an apartment building staircase. <\/span>It’s not a cemetery, yet here <\/span>lie<\/span> buried three people. \u201c<\/span>A mother with her 12-year-old child <\/span>who <\/span>were caught <\/span>directly <\/span>under bombardment. They had their documents with them, which is why <\/span> we <\/span>know their names<\/span>. <\/span>Next<\/span> to her is buried a man,<\/span> whom <\/span>we <\/span>could <\/span>not identify<\/span> because <\/span>he <\/span>was <\/span> torn<\/span>…<\/span>to pieces,\u201d says Alexandr from <\/span>Irpin. <\/span> For a month, he has been living in a basement with his wife and three other elderly neighbors. <\/span><\/p>

\u201cWe stayed here throughout the explosions. <\/span>Many things <\/span>were erased<\/span> <\/span>from our minds so we wouldn’t remember this pain.<\/span> In <\/span>the first days <\/span>we <\/span>ate <\/span>t <\/span>moldy bread. <\/span>We all <\/span> huddled <\/span>together when they were bombing and we prayed <\/span>into another while they were shelling and we were praying<\/span>. <\/span>We had to <\/span>keep <\/span>r<\/span>quiet, <\/span>so that <\/span>they wouldn’t <\/span>find out we were here. We didn’t even go to the toilet. <\/span><\/p>

We stayed in the center of the room; it was safer that way. We d<\/span>idn’t see a<\/span>ny other people, <\/span>we lived like <\/span>hermits. <\/span>Outside there was <\/span>war. Then we<\/span> consumed all provisions, saving water, bread.<\/span> By March 5, most residents had left here, but we don’t know how they got there.<\/span> <\/span>Many cars remained bombed on the Kyiv \u2013 Zhytomyr route,\u201d <\/span>says <\/span>Marina<\/span>,<\/span> in the filmed interview. <\/span> <\/p>

She is convinced that soon<\/span> the Russians will be driven out, the city will be rebuilt<\/span>, and life<\/span>, as she knew it until now,<\/span> will <\/span>continue.<\/span><\/p>

<\/span><\/p>

SHEVCHENKOVO<\/span>, THE PLACE WHERE EVERY DAY CAN BE THE LAST <\/span> <\/p>

Explosions are still heard<\/span> in Shevchenkovo<\/span>.<\/span> \u201c<\/span>They are ours,\u201d<\/span> says a local. <\/span>\u201cAnd yet, let’s leave.\u201d <\/span>Nikolai<\/span> is one of the Ukrainians who risks his life daily, driving <\/span>through minefields to bring supplies to those <\/span>trapped in their homes. <\/span> Many <\/span>refused to leave. <\/span> Next to the <\/span>\u00e2<\/span>the ruins of a house, <\/span>Nikolai <\/span>shows the camera a <\/span>mutilated body, covered in blood, draped with <\/span>a piece of<\/span>clothing: <\/span>\u201cHere is our<\/span> neighbor, he was a good man. But today a bomb fell and the man is no more.\u201d <\/span><\/p>

\u201c<\/span>Here every day can be the last,\u201d<\/span> says another local. He holds an unexploded mine in his hand, freshly <\/span>thrown into his yard by the enemy.<\/span> <\/span>\u201c<\/span>We have work to do. This is our country<\/span>. And we cannot <\/span>leave<\/span>\u201d. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>

The sequence with Nikolai in the car, speeding from one village to another, on adrenaline, without fear, loaded with supplies, is also memorable. KYIV. <\/span>MUSIC IN THE RUINS<\/span><\/p>

A scene of <\/span>absurd theater: amidst the ruins under bombs, Finnish <\/span>Lucas Stashevsky<\/span> <\/span>plays the double bass<\/span> as if <\/span>he were on<\/span> a grand stage. <\/span>This is how he resists<\/span>. <\/span> <\/p>

Behind him<\/span> Lucas,<\/span> <\/span>half of a <\/span>buildin<\/span>g was pulverized<\/span>.<\/span> The other half remained standin<\/span>g, <\/span>without walls.<\/span> If you look, you can see directly into people’s apartments. Pavel: <\/span>\u201c<\/span>I served<\/span> <\/span>in the military for 24 years in the Far East<\/span> (editor’s note: Russian Maritime Fleet)<\/span>. Now our former comrades have bombed us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

HOW <\/span>BUCHA<\/span> WENT FROM VILLAGE TO CEMETERY<\/span><\/p>

Bucha is the locality that would shock the entire world. <\/span>Following the Russian army, a massacre remained<\/span> that then spread across social media worldwide. <\/span> <\/p>

By<\/span> April 2022,<\/span> 4<\/span>00 dead had been exhumed from mass graves, to be identified and <\/span>reburied Christianly. <\/span> <\/p>

Mikhail<\/span>, a local from Bucha<\/span>: \u201c<\/span>Russian soldiers entered my garage<\/span>, without any warning. <\/span>I told them: Guys, <\/span>do <\/span>you have any common sense? <\/span>They said <\/span>they didn’t <\/span> know <\/span> they would fight Ukraine. <\/span> Well, how <\/span>can you not know if you received weapons <\/span> and <\/span> bullets? Can’t you read that <\/span> these <\/span>are Ukrainian villages? Who are you going to fight, the <\/span>old women or me? <\/span>One was talking to me, and the other had <\/span>the barrel of the gun <\/span>pointed <\/span> at me<\/span>.\u201d <\/span><\/p>

The testimony of another local:<\/span> <\/span>\u201c<\/span>In Bucha, <\/span>those who <\/span>broke into people’s homes<\/span> were the Chechens<\/span>. They ransacked everythin<\/span>g<\/span>. <\/span>They were looking for weapons\u201d. <\/span> <\/p>

<\/span><\/p>

NOVOSELIVKA<\/span> OR <\/span>\u201c<\/span>THE CATACLYSM\u201d WITH A VILLAGE NAME<\/span><\/p>

The locality of Novo<\/span>selivka was bombed until almost nothing was left of it. <\/span>After<\/span> the rain of rockets, <\/span>survivors<\/span> came to <\/span>rummage <\/span>through <\/span>the <\/span>ruins<\/span>. <\/span>They do not want to abandon their village. <\/span>They chose<\/span> to stay <\/span>and rebuild. <\/span> <\/p>

A l<\/span>ocal: <\/span>\u201cHere there were more than <\/span>10 rockets, they launched them one by one<\/span>\u201d. <\/span> <\/p>

\u201c<\/span>The house collapsed and this <\/span>man <\/span>was torn to pieces. Right next to our house. I ran<\/span>, <\/span>I couldn’t bear to see such a thing<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/p>

An <\/span>old woman crying<\/span>: <\/span>\u201cN<\/span>ot even animals act like this<\/span>!\u201d.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cI have<\/span> two brothers and nephews in Russia, but what they did <\/span>here<\/span> is terrible. My friend’s brother called her from Russia and told her that Putin came to us to rid the country of <\/span> <<<\/span>Banderites<\/span>>><\/span>\u201d and <\/span><<<\/span>Nazis<\/span>>><\/span>\u201d<\/span>. <\/span> <\/p>

<\/span><\/p>
